There are 45 million websites developed on WordPress.org. First launched in 2003, and celebrating its 8th year anniversary on May 27th, WordPress has revolutionised the way we blog and develop websites.
I first came across this awesome platform in 2008. With everything I do, I like to be able to monitor, edit and execute the White Echo website 24/7. The hardest part I found when hiring web developers to build, amend and update my website was that they all worked Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
Whether you’re a small, medium or large company, with digital media changing the way it does, you need to have control of your website 24/7.
This might create a fear in some people, and I totally understand. The most common comment I hear is, “What if I press the wrong button?” This was my exact worry too, but then I discovered WordPress.
This simple but extremely effective website building and blogging management platform will be – if it is not already – the future of website development.
I’m sure there will be a number of web developers out there disagreeing with me right now, but they are the ones who are developing their own backend platforms and charging customers a lot of money for their coding.
With WordPress, people are coding different add-on apps you can purchase for your WordPress website everyday. Search for that cool icon, cool design and embed straight into your WordPress website.
White Echo is sitting on a WordPress platform. Right now, I’m writing this blog in the backend management system of WordPress. It’s really easy. The best way to describe it is it’s just like writing an email and then attaching pictures, embedding videos and inserting links.
Below are a few websites – including my favourite website Mashable – that sit on this platform.
Mashable – The biggest social media news website in the world
Kobe Byrant – NBA Superstar
CNN Business – Breaking News across the Globe
Last week I took time out to interview Mike Halligan, Founder and Chief Designer at The Blog Designer, about WordPress.
“Since its release in 2003, WordPress has revolutionised the way that websites are built and managed. Stock themes can be purchased for as little as $25 and peeled back to see what it can do for those that are serious about putting together a great website without breaking the bank,” Mike said.
“Some factors that go into choosing a platform for your website are: search engine friendly, low-cost, reliable, readily available support, easy to update with little or no technical knowledge and easy to add to and expand upon in the future. Well, WordPress ticks all of these boxes.”
When speaking to Mike, the key thing that stood out for me was the ability to purchase apps for your website and to evolve your website without breaking the bank.
Since transferring my entire website over to WordPress, I’ve seen an immediate ease of use, relability and quick response time for editing and updating because WordPress is “simple.”
My personal opinion: it’s no doubt going to be the number one website development platform in the near future. If your website is on a different platform, ask your web developer about WordPress. If they ignore it or don’t offer it, then ask why.
If you would like a website built, please contact us to discuss further. With the use of The Blog Designer, we have already, in a short space of time, been able to design some really cool websites including this one for Esteem Day Spa.
